  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Gel food coloring (red and blue)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Beat in eggs one at a time along with vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. In another bowl, whisk flour and baking powder; gradually mix into wet ingredients until just combined.
  4. Divide dough into three parts; color one red, one blue, and leave one plain.
  5. Roll each colored dough into logs about 1 inch thick. Layer the logs on parchment paper and roll tightly to form a single log. Chill for at least 1 hour.
  6. Slice chilled log into rounds about half an inch thick and place on a baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges are lightly golden.
